The Ghana News Agency reported on July 14, that Thirteen African Heads of State have appealed to governments in donor countries for financial support to make Education for All (EFA) a lasting legacy of the World Cup 2010 for the benefit of Africa's children.
I read the letter and think i should ask some questions. But before i ask those questions, i must say something.
As Africans we have a societal value that holds in high esteem the family system particularly that of the Extended family. This system allows us to call for help from other family members when we need it. It is splendid, although it has its own disadvantages.
The disadvantages can however be worked on to make the family a unique identity. But over the years, the system has changed and gradually the nuclear system of family from countries beyond Africa is taking over.
People are now becoming individualistic and seeking their own interests. My worry is that the entire African continent is still living on that "Blood Stream of extended family system" and has no idea that things are changing. We are just asking for help any time, any how from any one without considering things properly.
We need to educate our people and teach them what they need to know to develop. But who is supposed to do this for us? Should it be the West? Why are we always asking for help?
Some say the west duped Africa during colonialism but please cant we think well and see through the glass for once? Are we sure we would be given the help just like that without sacrificing?
My biggest question is Do we really need help from the West and the Donors before we do things for our selves and for our people? What a continent? I dont think we know the value of our resources, both human and natural.
Lets start doing things for our selves and stop begging and asking for everything.
Its bleeds my heart a lot.
my grandfather once said if a child starts brushing his teeth with a hard smokers toothbrush, the gum is eventually bruised, your heart might bleed for the continent but dont forget the developed world depended on the natural and human resource of the people u want to have premature ejaculation,to build their industries,we cannot pretend to be bigboys and start walking when we've not learnt how to crawl well, i share Ur frustration on the spate of development on the continent, but from the post-facto benefit of our political history we cannot pretend we have arrived, to wit: foreign aid is a necessary evil...
